Bobcats Battle Barry, Fall 3-0 for First Home Loss

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Allowing the first home goal of the season, the Georgia College & State University soccer team (2-3) fell 3-0 to Barry University (4-2) in the final game of the 2010 Little Feet Invitational hosted by Georgia College.
Barry scored with just over nine minutes remaining in the opening period to give them the 1-0 advantage going into halftime. The Buccaneers attacked with an early goal within the first four minutes of the second half and while the Bobcats had some chances in the second half, they couldn’t break the shutout.
Barry’s Melissa Madrid scored two goals bringing her to six on the season while Emma Karp finished with one goal (11) and two assists (4,5).
The ‘Cats were unable to capitalize on the opportunities that they got at the goal as freshman Taylor Yee (Alpharetta, Ga.) led her team with four shots, one on goal while classmate Katie Taylor (Sharpsburg, Ga.) had two shots, both on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Mary Rob Plunkett (Augusta, Ga.) allowed three goals but still recorded eight saves against the Bucs. Five games into the season, Plunkett has a 1.58 GAA and 24 stops.
Barry’s Mikaela Barbosa made seven saves in the win as the Bobcats were outshot 32-17, also losing the corner battle 7-3.
Georgia College continues their home stand with a game Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. against Georgia Southwestern State University to start Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play.
