MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College soccer program and head coach Hope Clark revealed the 2011 schedule Tuesday. The 18-match schedule features four nationally-ranked teams and seven participants from the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
The Bobcats start their season in Greeneville, Tenn. at the Tusculum College Tournament. GC starts with the toughest opponent on their 2011 slate, taking on No. 8 and reigning Southeast Region Champion Lenoir-Rhyne University Sept. 2. The Bobcats finish the tournament Sept. 4 with the University of Southern Indiana, the lone out-of-region contest on the schedule.
GC then returns home to host the Third Annual Bobcat Shootout, with Nova Southeastern University, Tusculum and Wingate University coming together at Bobcat Field. GC plays Wingate Sept. 9 and takes on Tusculum Sept. 11.
The University of Tampa Tournament comes next, as GC faces Barry University and No. 16 Tampa Sept. 16 and 18. The host Spartans were NCAA Tournament participants in 2010, advancing to the third round.
The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) season starts at home in 2011, as GC hosts the University of Montevallo Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. GC hits the road for the next four contests, taking on Georgia Southwestern State University, Lander University, Clayton State University and wrapping up with tournament participant and the lone out-of-conference game of the trip, the University of North Alabama.
No. 17 Columbus State University comes to town Oct. 8 at 3 p.m., the second among three-straight NCAA Tournament opponents. A trip to UNC Pembroke Oct. 12 rounds out the three.
GC battles North Georgia Oct. 15 to start a four-game home stretch. No. 11 Armstrong Atlantic arrives Oct. 19, with the final NCAA Tournament Participant Rollins College coming Oct. 23. USC Aiken marks the final home contest of the regular season Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. The final regular-season match comes Oct. 29 at Flagler College.
The PBC Tournament begins Nov. 1 at campus sites, with the semifinals Nov. 4 and the finals Nov. 6.
The Bobcats went 7-7-3 with a 4-4-2 PBC mark in 2010. The Bobcats toppled two nationally-ranked programs this past season, taking down Florida Tech, who was ranked No. 13. At the time, the win marked the highest-ranked team that the Bobcats had ever beaten, but less than a month later the ‘Cats defeated No. 8 AASU 2-1, becoming the highest-ranked team that GC has defeated.
