MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Sophomore Megan McAlpin (Newnan, Ga.) of the Georgia College & State University soccer team (9-5-5, 5-1-4 PBC) was named the Georgia College Athlete of the Week for the week ending Nov. 1, the sports information office announced today (Nov. 2). This is the first such honor for McAlpin and the third this season for the Bobcats.
McAlpin helped the Bobcats to 1-0-1 record this week. The Newnan native headed in the game winning goal Wednesday with just 38 seconds left in overtime, pulling out the 2-1 win over conference foe USC Aiken. Saturday, McAlpin hooked up with Daria Owen (Snellville, Ga.) to assist Jamie Nevin (Grovetown, Ga.) in the 1-1 tie with the University of Montevallo.
McAlpin leads the Bobcats this season in points with 14, goals with six and assists with four. Georgia College has yet to lose a contest this season when McAlpin earns points by getting either a goal or an assist.
McAlpin and her Bobcat teammates return to action tomorrow (Nov. 3) hosting the first round of the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament taking on North Georgia at 7 p.m.
