INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA Division II women's soccer polls were released yesterday (Oct. 28) with Georgia College & State University (9-5-4, 5-1-3 PBC) slotted 10th in the Southeast Region. The Bobcats have been impressive as of late going 4-0-1 in their past five matches, including the 0-0 tie against national No. 3 Columbus State University.
Georgia College downed Clayton State University 3-0 Oct. 11 and then Oct. 17 defeated new addition to the conference Flager College 2-0.
Georgia College defeated UNC Pembroke 1-0 at home Oct. 21. The Bobcat defense held the Peach Belt Conference's (PBC) third-leading scorer, Anna Svensson, to only three shots with no goals. Three days later the Bobcats tied national No. 3 Columbus State University at home 0-0. Again, the GCSU defense came through and held the PBC's fourth-leading scorer, Gina Goforth, to no goals on six shots.
In addition to the Bobcats, four other PBC teams appeared on the regional list. Columbus State took second, Armstrong Atlantic State University is slotted fourth, Lander University ranks seventh and North Georgia is in the eighth position.
The Bobcat defensive unit continues to rank among the elite in the nation. The ‘Cats have escalated up the rankings jumping up as many as 14 slots in one category. Georgia College is ranked 14th in save percentage (.879), 24th in GAA (.603) and 34th in shutout percentage (.529).
Junior goalkeeper Mary Rob Plunkett (Augusta, Ga.) proceeds to shine between the net. Plunkett catapulted eight slots in save percentage and is now ranked fourth in the nation with .923 save percentage and is also eighth with a .393 GAA.
Georgia College returns to Bobcat Field Saturday, Oct. 31 at 4 p.m. against the University of Montevallo.
