MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. -Sophomore Mary Rob Plunkett (Augusta, Ga.) of the No. 19 Georgia College & State University soccer team (13-1-4) was named GCSU Athlete of the Week, the sports information office announced today (Nov. 5). The award honors the top performance by a Bobcat during the week ending Nov. 2. This is the first such honor for Plunkett and the fourth for the Bobcat soccer team this season.
In addition to taking her first Georgia College Athlete of the Week award, Plunkett also earned her fifth Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Goalkeeper of the Week award for the season this week after making 15 saves in two games as Georgia College went 2-0 on the week. She began with seven saves in a 2-0 shutout win over North Georgia and then turned in a stellar game against Columbus State University, making eight saves over 110 minutes as the two teams fought to a 0-0 tie. The two shutouts give her a school-record eight on the season as she continues to lead the PBC with a 0.31 GAA, which is also sixth-best in the nation.
The Bobcats have now taken 10 PBC weekly honors and four Athlete of the Week honors this season. They are back in action Friday, Nov. 7 at Blachard Woods Parks in Evans, Ga. as they take on UNC Pembroke in the second round of the PBC Tournament beginning at 5:30 p.m.
