MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Georgia College & State University's soccer team is tearing their way into polls across the region and nation. The Bobcats have won seven of their last nine and have not lost a game since Sept. 20.
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America's (NSCAA) rankings placed Georgia College at No. 3 in their latest Southeast Region Poll (Oct. 21). This was the second-straight week the Bobcats have been ranked third.
The Bobcats were slotted fifth in the NCAA Regional poll today. This is the highest ranking for Georgia College in the program's short five-year history, topping the No. 6 slot a year ago. Six teams make the region tournament, with three automatic bids going to the three conference tournament champions, and three going to at-large selections. The Bobcats' No. 5 rank places them within consideration depending upon which schools take the conference tournament titles.
After beating a very good Lincoln Memorial University (10-1-2) team 2-1 this past Sunday, the Bobcats jumped another spot to No. 20 in the NSCAA National Rankings. This also is the highest ranking for Georgia College in program history.
"There's a lot of soccer left to be played not only for us, but the other teams in the region as well," said GCSU head coach Juan Pablo Favero. "It's an honor, but we need to take care of things on the field."
Be sure to catch the Bobcats' next game as they travel on the road to play at North Georgia College & State University in a week, Oct. 29 at 4:30 p.m.
