MARTINEZ, Ga. - The Georgia College & State University women's soccer team (6-1-1, 0-1 PBC) brought home the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week, the conference office announced today (Sept. 30). Sophomore Mary Rob Plunkett (Augusta, Ga.) won goalkeeper honors, while junior Kara Teresi (Tampa, Fla.) brought home the defensive player trophy.
Not a single shot got past Plunkett this week, as she helped the squad post three shutouts. She came out of two of the three games because of blowouts (6-0 and 5-0), but played the full 90 minutes against Mars Hill Friday, a 3-0 win. She posted three saves against Erskine, three against Mars Hill and one against North Alabama. She leads the league in GAA with 0.27 and has yet to give up a goal in home games. This is Plunkett's second PBC Goalkeeper of the Week selection.
Teresi co-anchored the middle of a defensive line that posted three shutouts this week. The team had a 75-14 shot disparity over the three games, with just eight of those 14 shots reaching Bobcat goalkeepers. On Sunday, Teresi helped shut down a prolific goal scorer in Tassia Augusto from North Alabama. She entered the game with 14 goals on the season (averaging 1.5 goals per game), including a five-goal contest, but against the Bobcat defense she mustered just one shot. Teresi's defensive line has yet to allow a goal at home this season. Teresi is the third Bobcat to win defensive player of the week this year.
The Bobcats return to action tomorrow, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. hosting Lander University.
