GREENWOOD, S.C. – The West No. 4-seed Georgia College Women's Basketball team (15-12) couldn't solve the puzzle of East No. 1-seed Lander University's (23-6) potent offense, falling Saturday in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament Quarterfinals 93-76.

The second quarter proved trouble for the GC Women, powered by an 18-0 Lander run that closed at the 1:42 mark. The third period was kinder to the Bobcats, winning the frame 26-21, even cutting the Lander advantage to 45-41 at the 5:41 mark.

The depth of Lander took over from that point, as the Bearcats had six scorers reach double-digits.

The Bobcats had four of their starters reach double-figure scoring, led by a career-high 24 points from sophomore Shay Tarver (Covington, Georgia). The guard hit 5-of-6 from long range and 8-of-14 overall.

Junior Alyah McGriff (Suwanee, Georgia) came in a point behind Tarver, grabbing five rebounds as well. Classmate Ta'Asia Wright (Denmark) added 13 points and a team-high nine boards, while junior guard Brianna Davis (Rockford, Illinois) had 11 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Georgia College actually out-shot Lander 52 percent (28-54) to 44 percent (29-66) but the Bearcats held the Bobcats at bay with a 35-9 advantage in points off turnovers.

The season comes to a close for Georgia College, the fourth straight trip to the PBC Tournament, including two appearances in the finals during that stretch. Georgia College will say farewell to five seniors this season in LaRice Walker (Franklin, Georgia), Christina Thomas (Augusta, Georgia), Veronica Ryan (Clearwater, Florida), Ellie Fruit (Henderson, Kentucky) and Lindsey Reed (Stockbridge, Georgia).
