MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Members of the Georgia College women's basketball team spent time last week at the Early Learning Center (ELC). The ELC, which is located at Chappell Hall, sponsored a Family and Fun Day April 26 that team members helped with in support of the Georgia Head Start-funded program for three-, four- and five-year olds.
The Family and Fun Day is an annual event put on by the ELC in Baldwin County. The format of the Family and Fun Day was a carnival this year and it featured a variety of games, contests, food, prizes and much more for the children and their families of the ELC.
"It's always exciting to partner with different organizations within our community that do a great job at catering to our local youth," said head women's basketball coach Maurice Smith. "This was another great opportunity for our ladies to assist the Early Learning Center in making this a great event. They helped create games, assisted in setting up the event, and provided some entertainment."
The purpose of the ELC is to get preschool children ready to succeed in kindergarten and their future years in school. It is funded by 210 Head Start three-and-four-year-olds, 120 Pre-K state lottery funded four-year-olds, and is also the site for the Preschool Disabilities Program for children 3-5 years old in Baldwin County. They provide a developmentally appropriate learning environment for children using the High Scope curriculum approach, plus offer screening and follow-up health, dental and family services.
