AMERICUS, Ga. – The Georgia College women's basketball team (6-0, 2-0 PBC) extended its winning streak to six by picking up a second Peach Belt Conference (PBC) win on the road by beating Georgia Southwestern State University (4-3, 0-1 PBC), 69-58 Saturday afternoon at the Storm Dome. The Bobcats improve to 6-0 for the first time since 2006-07.
For the first time this season, the Bobacts had four double-digit scorers. The balanced offensive attack complemented the team's defensive play where they produced nine more turnover points than GSW and matched a season-high in rebounds at 50.
It was also the first game this season that two Bobcats registered double-doubles with the performances of seniors Shanteona Keys (Roswell, Ga.) (10 points, 16 boards) and Thresia Elskamp (Potosi, Wis.) (12 points, 12 rebounds). Two of Keys' points came from the free-throw line and brought her career total to 213, just five shy of tying Cassie Miliner at No. 10 in GC women's basketball history.
Junior Enisha Donley (Loganville, Ga.) led the team in points with 17 followed by Elskamp, Keys and senior Brandi McKinney (Cincinnati). McKinney picked up her fifth double-digit scoring game of the season with 10 points, while leading the team in assists with five.
Also having another solid outing was freshman LaRice Walker (Franklin, Ga.), who added a season-high nine points to go along with four boards, four assists and two steals.
After trailing for as much as six points on three different occasions, Georgia College was able to cut the deficit to four at 29-25 at the intermission. The first half produced four Bobcat leads with the last coming with 8:20 left in the half at 14-13.
Georgia College stormed out of the gate in the second half, needing just 2:37 to turn the tables and take the lead for good with a layup by Keys. Mid-way through the second half, McKinney's layup would give the Bobcats their first double-digit lead, coasting from there with Georgia Southwestern getting no closer than seven the rest of the way.
GSW was led by Jasmine McSwain, who recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards. Danyelle Jones led the Hurricanes in scoring with 15.
The GC women's basketball team will finish the month of December with three home non-conference matchups, the next game coming against Anderson University (S.C.) Monday, Dec. 16 at 5:30 p.m.
