Bobcat Women’s Basketball Battles the Argonauts to 66-56 Victory
DAHLONEGA, Ga. - The Georgia College women's basketball team (1-1) started off the Lady Saints Tip-Off Classic on the right note Friday night, as they battled the University of West Florida (0-3) to a 66-56 victory.
The Bobcats were led offensively by Shanteona Keys (Roswell, Ga.) who had a game-high 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field and 3-of-6 from behind the arc. Keys added eight rebounds and three assists to her final line.
Tara Wornica (Petersburg, Ind.) was one of two other Bobcats to reach double digits, in a game that eight Bobcats scored. Wornica scored 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting and Krysta Lewis (Woodstock, Ga.) added 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field and 2-of-2 from behind the arc. Lewis scored her 12 points in just 15 minutes of action.
Abby Slocumb (Suwanee, Ga.) scored seven points while adding five rebounds, five blocks and one steal. Thresia Elskamp (Potosi, Wis.) also filled up the box score en route to a game high 38 minutes on the court. Elskamp scored seven points on 3-of-6 shooting while adding six steals, eight rebounds and three assists.
The Argos were led by Toynetta Johnson and Emily Erland, with Johnson scoring a team high 20 points and Erland pulling down a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bobcats shot 41 percent for the game, compared to the Argos 35 percent. Both teams improved in the second half, with the Bobcats going from 39 percent in the first half to 44 in the second and the Argos going from 31 percent to 43.
The Bobcats will be back in action Saturday, Nov. 17 as they compete in game two of the Lady Saint Tip-Off Classic.
