MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College women’s basketball program and head coach Maurice Smith announced the signing of Mckenna Rushton Tuesday.
A graduate of North Hall High in Gainesville, Ga., Rushton was a 1,000 point scorer and four-year starter for head coach Kristi House and the Lady Trojans.
“Mckenna will bring much needed versatility to our team,” said Smith. “She has the ability to score the ball in a variety of ways. Mckenna has proven that she can compete with the best of best - She did a fantastic job leading her team to the GHSA AAA final four this season. We are looking forward to the competitive spirit she will bring to our team.”
She helped lead the North Hall to a Region 8-AAA title and that final four appearance in 2012, and was chosen to the All-Region Tournament team all four of her seasons. She was also chosen the MVP of her Senior All-Star Game this past season. She plans to major in pre-nursing at GC.
The youthful Bobcats spent the 2011-12 season without a senior, and finished 4-22 with a 2-15 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) record. Freshman Shanteona Keys (Roswell, Ga.) became just the second PBC Freshman of the Year in school history, and added All-PBC Third Team honors as well.
