MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College women’s basketball team (22-6) has garnered some more national attention following their Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Championship Tournament run.  The Bobcats received 18 points in this weeks USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll, up 12 from last week.

After upsetting No. 4 Lander University Saturday afternoon in the PBC semi-finals, Georgia College went on to knockoff tournament host No. 12 USC-Aiken in the championship game.

Clayton State University dropped a spot to No. 2 after losing to new No. 8 USC Aiken in the PBC semifinals.  Fellow PBC member Lander also dropped to No. 6 in the most recent poll.

All four teams, including Francis Marion University will take place in the NCAA Southeast Regional beginning Friday, March 11, giving the PBC five of the eight participants.

The Bobcats won the PBC Championship behind a stingy defense that allowed just 52 points a game in the tournament.  GC currently ranks No. 8 nationally in scoring defense at just 54.1 points a game, as well as No. 8 in field-goal percentage defense at 33.5 percent.

Individually, Chimere Jordan (Gray, Ga.) moved up to No. 2 nationally in points per game, averaging 21.4 a game.  Jordan is also a presence on the defensive end, ranking No. 15 nationally with 3.1 steals per game.

Sophomore Karisma Boykin (Carrollton, Ga.) continues to orchestrate the GC offense, averaging 4.8 assists a game, good for No. 26 nationally.

Georgia College will begin NCAA Southeast Regional action against Barton College (25-4) Friday, March 11 at 8 p.m. at the Clayton State Athletics Fitness Center in Morrow, Ga.
