MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College women's basketball team (10-3, 2-3 PBC) dominated Flagler College (4-10, 1-5 PBC) in a 73-57 drubbing, Monday night in the Centennial Center.
Chimere Jordan's (Gray, Ga.) spectacular performance helped the Bobcats to their second conference victory of the season. Jordan had 25 points shooting 9-of-20 from the field and 4-of-9 from beyond the arc. She also recorded nine rebounds and two blocks. Dominque Huffin (Tucker, Ga.) recorded 15 points, eight rebounds, three assists and one off the bench.
Freshman Abby Slocumb (Suwanee, Ga.) tied a career high with eight points and seven rebounds. The Bobcats had great production off of the bench as Jessica Baker (Snellville, Ga.) chipped in seven points, shooting 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. GC's bench chipped in 24 points overall.
The first half was the focal point of this game as the Bobcats took over from the start. GC started out of the gates quickly going on a 14-2 run. The 'Cats would eventually open up the lead to 24 points, 42-18, after two made free throws by Tammeisha Law (Athens, Ga.). The Bobcats went into the half up 44-26. GC shot an incredible 45 percent (14-31) from the field, 46 percent (6-13) from beyond the arc and 10-of-10 (1.000) from the charity stripe.
The Bobcats started to lose focus in the second half when the Saints cut the lead to a 12-point deficit, 64-52. But that was as close as Flagler would get as the Bobcats opened it back up to 19, 73-54, after a Huffin layup.
Saints' forward Tierra Ford recorded a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Arianna Roper and Charlsea Owen were also in double figures for Flagler with 12 and 11 points, respectively
The 'Cats shot 25-of-61 (.410) from the field, 8-of-23 (.348) from three and 15-of-18 (.833) from the line. GC held the Saints to just 32 percent (18-57) from the floor and 7-of-21 (.333) from beyond the arc. The Bobcats won the rebounding battle 45-40 and the turnover battle 17-12.
The Bobcats play at 5:30 p.m. at Columbus State University on Wednesday, Jan. 19.
