MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The women's basketball team at Georgia College & State University (16-7, 11-5 PBC) weathered both the storm outside and inside the Centennial Center tonight (Feb. 18) against Georgia Southwestern State University (7-18, 2-16) upending the Hurricanes 51-44 on "Senior Night."
The Bobcats were led by junior forward, Antoinette Reames (Orlando, Fla.) who posted her fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 boards, eight of which were defensive. This marks the second straight game where Reames has posted a double-double. The 16 points also ties her season high. Reames also recorded two blocks which moves her to 62 on the season and in her career at Georgia College. Reames jumps past Cassie Miliner (2004-2008) into eighth place on the all-time block list.
A key statistic tonight for the Bobcats was their ability to make free-throws in the second half as they shot .700 (7-10). Also, in the second half the Bobcats were able to shut down Nadirah Gardner who scored 10 points in the first half, but only finished the game with 12.
Gardner was aided by Brandi Burris and Clarissa Corbett who each scored eight points.
Georgia College remains at the third slot in the PBC standings behind first place Francis Marion University (23-1, 16-1) and Clayton State University (20-4, 14-3).
The Bobcats are back to the courts Saturday, Feb. 21 for Homecoming as they face the Patriots of Francis Marion at 2 p.m.
