Georgia College to Begin Honoring Community Heroes
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- In an effort to recognize those who are achieving outstanding volunteer work in the greater Milledgeville area, Georgia College is pleased to announce that they will honor a "Community Hero" each week during the basketball season. The honoree will be invited to attend the game, meet the players and coaches, get recognized in a special ceremony, and sit on the Lady Bobcat bench during the game.
There are three main criteria for this award. The nominee must be a resident of Milledgeville. The person must have made a significant impact on and individual, family, organization, or entire community in Milledgeville as the result of either a one-time or an ongoing effort. One or more of the following services must have been supported: education, youth or senior programs, environmental issues, animal interests, religious institutions, neighborhoods, arts and culture, or health and human services.
The heroic individuals will be honored every Saturday home game that the Lady Bobcats play this season. There are five scheduled Saturday contests this year, the first beginning Jan. 3 as GCSU tips off against No. 15 Valdosta State University and the Lady Blazers. Other Saturday games this season include Jan. 10 against Lander University, Jan. 24 against USC Aiken, Jan. 31 against Augusta State University, and Feb. 21 against Francis Marion University.
You may submit nominees to women's basketball assistant coach Maurice Smith at email@example.com or by phone at (478)445-4010.
