INDIANAPOLIS – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) released its Southeast Region rankings poll Wednesday and has listed the Georgia College softball team at No. 7. The rankings determine which teams get invited to the Division II National Tournament and they will continue to get updated as the May tournament approaches.
The Regional tournaments will take place from May 8-11 at the location of the highest two seeds from the most recent poll released prior to the tournament date. After a Super-Regional Round, the National Tournament will run May 22-26 at the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va.
Eight teams from each region get invited, with tournament conference winners receiving an automatic bid, while five other at-large teams are also selected based on the regional rankings. The last rankings prior to the regional tournament will determine the at-large selections.
The Southeast Region is represented by the Peach Belt Conference (PBC), South Atlantic Conference (SAC) and the Conference Carolinas (CC). Each conference tournament champion from the PBC, SAC and CC plus five at-large teams selected from the Southeast Region poll will compete for the NCAA Division II National Championship along with three conference winners and five at-large teams from seven other regions.
In addition to the Southeast Region, the other seven regions include the Midwest, South, East, Central, South Central, West and Atlantic.
The current Southeast Region 10 ranked teams are comprised of five each from the PBC and SAC. Not listed on the Southeast Region poll but receiving a NCAA bid will be the tournament champion from the CC.
