AUGUSTA, Ga. – Georgia College senior Whitney Okvist (Kennesaw, Ga.) has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference's Softball Player of the Week Tuesday. It is the first time this season the senior has been honored as she ranks in the PBC top-three in two categories.
Okvist hit .556 with three RBI, eight runs scored and nine stolen bases as the Bobcats went 5-1 last week. She went 10-for-18 in all games combined and drew five walks for a .652 on-base percentage.
In the 6-4 win over Carson-Newman College, she went 3-for-4 at the plate, stole two bases and scored three runs including the game-winning run in the seventh inning. She also stole two bases in the 5-4 win over Lincoln Memorial University, while getting one hit and scoring a run in the second inning that the Bobcats would need before winning in extra innings. In the lone loss for the Bobcats last week, Okvist was 2-for-3 at the plate, stealing one base in a 3-2 loss to Lenoir-Rhyne University.
Okvist leads the PBC with 18 stolen bases this year and is seven steals away from becoming the PBC's all-time career leader. She is also third in the league in hitting and on-base percentage.
The Bobcats open their PBC schedule next with a doubleheader at Young Harris College Thursday, March 6 starting at 2 p.m.
