AUGUSTA, Ga. – Georgia College outfielder Whitney Okvist (Kennesaw, Ga.) was the lone Bobcat to make the 2014 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Softball Preseason All-Conference Team according to the league office Tuesday. This is the second time in as many seasons that she has been named to the PBC Preseason Team.
Okvist enters the list with impressive credentials having already been named to conference, regional, and national teams. She was a First-team NFCA All-American (2012), Second-team National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region (2013), Second-team All-PBC (2011), and twice a All-PBC First-Team selection (2012, 2013). She is also a two-time PBC Presidential Scholar (2012, 2013).
In addition to being the current Georgia College record leader in steals, she also has the highest streak of consecutive steals in PBC history and the PBC third-highest season-total steals at 52 (2012). Last season, Okvist led the Bobcats in runs scored at 39.
The season opens with a pair of home games against the University of West Alabama on Saturday, Feb. 1 starting at 11 a.m.
