Bobcat Athletics Puts School-Record 130 on PBC Presidential Honor Roll
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) announced its Presidential Honor Roll recipients, with 130 Georgia College student-athletes making the list, a school record. The program honors all student-athletes with a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the 2013-14 academic year.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Georgia College senior Whitney Okvist (Kennesaw, Ga.) has been named to the 2014 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II All-American roster. The senior outfielder rejoins the All-American rankings as a Second Team selection after originally garnering a First Team nod in 2012.

ANDERSON, S.C. – The No. 7-seed Georgia College softball team (34-17) dropped a 2-0 elimination game to No. 6-seed USC Aiken (33-15) in the NCAA Southeast Region Tournament Saturday evening at Smethers Field. The teams registered a combined six hits after the game started five hours late.

Division II Regional Softball Selection Show Monday
INDIANAPOLIS – The 2014 NCAA Championship Selection Show for softball will air on the NCAA TV Broadcast Network Monday, May 5 at 10 a.m. to pair the Southeast Region teams that include three tournament champions and five at-large teams. The Bobcats are hoping for a berth as one of those at-large selections.

Bobcats #7 on Softball NCAA Southeast Region List
INDIANAPOLIS – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) released its Southeast Region rankings poll Wednesday and has listed the Georgia College softball team at No. 7. The rankings determine which teams get invited to the Division II National Tournament and they will continue to get updated as the May tournament approaches. The Regional tournaments will take place from May 8-11 at the location of the highest two seeds from the most recent poll released prior to the tournament date. After a Super-Regional Round, the National Tournament will run May 22-26 at the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va. Eight teams from each region get invited, with tournament conference winners receiving an automatic bid, while five other at-large teams are also selected based on the regional rankings. The last rankings prior to the regional tournament will determine the at-large selections. The Southeast Region is represented by the Peach Belt Conference (PBC), South Atlantic Conference (SAC) and the Conference Carolinas (CC). Each conference tournament champion from the PBC, SAC and CC plus five at-large teams selected from the Southeast Region poll will compete for the NCAA Division II National Championship along with three conference winners and five at-large teams from seven other regions. In addition to the Southeast Region, the other seven regions include the Midwest, South, East, Central, South Central, West and Atlantic. The current Southeast Region 10 ranked teams are comprised of five each from the PBC and SAC. Not listed on the Southeast Region poll but receiving a NCAA bid will be the tournament champion from the CC. The Georgia College Department of Athletics, two-time winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup, sponsors 11 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level. Bobcat Rally Falls Short in 6-4 PBC Tournament Loss
FLORENCE, S.C. – The Georgia College softball team (34-15) was three outs away from advancing to the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Semifinals when Flagler College (28-25) scored five runs in its last at-bat to win 6-4 at the FMU Softball Stadium Friday afternoon. Down three runs in the bottom of the seventh, senior Whitney Horton (Acworth, Ga.) hit a rocket out of the stadium to draw the Bobcats within a pair but that was as close as Georgia College would get.

Four Bobcats Named to All-PBC Softball Teams
FLORENCE, S.C. – The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) announced its All-PBC Softball Teams Thursday at the year-end awards banquet, with four Georgia College players earning spots on the list. Senior Whitney Okvist (Kennesaw, Ga.) and sophomore Taylor Campbell (Warner Robins, Ga.) were named to the first team, while freshman Danielle Bernstein (Cumming, Ga.) and sophomore Abi LeRoy (Dublin, Ga.) were named to the second.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College softball team (34-14, 13-9 PBC) enters the 2014 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament as the No. 4 seed, coming off a championship game run a year ago. The single elimination tournament will be hosted by Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C. and pits the top eight teams in the PBC against each other for an automatic bid in the NCAA tournament.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College softball team (34-14, 13-9 PBC) enters the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament this weekend as the No. 4 seed after sophomore Marisa Boyette (Marietta, Ga.) inspired her teammates; pitching a one-hit shutout in the second game of a doubleheader against Lander University (8-42, 2-20 PBC) Tuesday on Senior Day at the Peeler Complex. The Bobcats took both contests, 7-2 and 9-0 as they prepare to make a championship run.

AIKEN, S.C. – The Georgia College softball team (32-14, 11-9 PBC) dropped a pair of games to USC Aiken (33-12, 15-7 PBC) Saturday at Satcher Field. Junior Kristen Humphries (Columbus, Ga.) hit a grand slam in the first game’s 6-5 loss, and the Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the second game before falling 4-1.

Softball Receives Votes in NFCA National Poll For Sixth-Consecutive Week
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Georgia College softball team (32-12) received votes for the sixth-consecutive week in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 Poll released Wednesday. The Bobcats received the most votes of those teams not making the top-25, and were just 12 votes shy of making the cut.

GC Softball Gets 20th Home Win in CSU Split
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College softball team (31-12, 11-7 PBC) had its six-game winning streak snapped by Columbus State University (26-18, 8-10 PBC) in the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday at the Peeler Complex. The opening game 9-4 win allowed the Bobcats to become the first Peach Belt Conference (PBC) PBC team with 20 home wins, while a last-inning Cougar rally spoiled the Bobcat sweep attempt.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College softball team (27-11, 6-6 PBC) deserved better in getting its 15-game home-unbeaten streak snapped by No. 3 Armstrong Atlantic State University (26-8, 11-3 PBC) 4-0 Monday in the first game at the Peeler Complex when they only allowed two hits. Sophomore Marisa Boyette (Marietta, Ga.) atoned for the team’s first game misfortunes by pitching six innings of shutout ball in a 7-2 second-game win.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College softball team (26-10, 5-5 PBC) and Flagler College (19-23, 7-7) both ended the day with .500 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) records by virtue of a Bobcat sweep Sunday at the Peeler Complex. Freshman Carly Lewis (Seymour, Tenn.)(12-6) tossed 10 2/3 innings of shutout ball on the day, as Georgia College won 8-0 and 14-7.

Softball Game Sunday Dubbed “StriKeOut Cancer Day”
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College softball team wishes to recognize survivors and help bring awareness to finding a cure for cancer at a softball doubleheader Sunday, March 30 against Flagler College as “StriKeOut Cancer Day.” The twinbill is slated to start at noon, as the softball team is pairing with the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and the American Cancer Society in this collaborative venture.

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Georgia College senior Whitney Okvist (Kennesaw, Ga.) set a Peach Belt Conference (PBC) career record for stolen bases as the Bobcat softball team (20-6, 1-1 PBC) split a doubleheader to start conference play at Young Harris College (11-16, 1-1 PBC) Friday at E.D. Rivers Field. Georgia College won 6-3 in extra innings of game one, and had their seven-game winning streak snapped in a 6-5 loss of game two.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College softball team (15-5) has now won eight of their last nine games by sweeping the University of Mount Olive (9-15) in a doubleheader at the Peeler Complex Tuesday. The Bobcats took the opener 5-2 before finishing off the Trojans 6-2 in the nightcap.

Junior Makayla Sparks (Macon, Ga.) entered the game in the bottom of the 10th inning at the plate and knocked in sophomore Abi LeRoy (Dublin, Ga.) for the 5-4 win.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Georgia College softball team (13-5) had their six-game winning streak snapped in their final Mid-South Classic Tournament contest by Lenoir-Rhyne University (13-4), 3-2 Saturday night at Tiger River Field. The game featured two Bobcat solo home-run blasts in the fourth inning that kept Georgia College within a run of tying the game in the final three innings.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Georgia College softball team (12-4) won a pair of games in the Mid-South Classic Tournament against Brevard College (7-6) and Carson-Newman College (13-3) Friday at Tiger River Field to up their winning streak to five games. The Bobcats first beat Brevard College 10-2 and then beat Carson-Newman 6-4.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College softball team (10-4) extended its winning streak to three by sweeping Brevard College (7-5) in an offensive onslaught at the Peeler Complex. The team only got to bat nine times between the two games but amassed 20 runs in winning 11-3 and 9-0, respectively.

GC Softball Opens Season With Bobcat Blast Tournament This Weekend
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College softball team will open the 2014 campaign by hosting three other teams in the Bobcat Blast this weekend. The Bobcats open the season with a doubleheader against the University of West Alabama Saturday, Feb. 1 starting at 11 a.m., followed by a doubleheader between Queens University of Charlotte (N.C.) and Georgia Southwestern University starting at 3:30 pm. On Sunday, Feb. 2, GSW will play a doubleheader against West Alabama starting at 10 a.m., followed by a doubleheader between Georgia College and Queens starting at 2:30 p.m.
