AUGUSTA, Ga. – Freshman pitcher Marisa Boyette (Marietta, Ga.) of the Georgia College softball team (8-6, 1-1 PBC) has wasted no time impressing onlookers and shutting down opposing hitters at the collegiate level. Following her performance against No. 13 Flagler College, Boyette was named the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Softball Freshman of the Week.
Boyette went the distance against the Saints to come away with a 3-1 victory, her fifth win of the season. She allowed four hits while striking out six and kept the Saints off the scoreboard until the seventh inning.
“My rise ball was working really well and they were offering at it a lot,” said Boyette when asked about her outing against Flagler. “We played good defense and hit well as a team.”
Boyette has a 2.19 ERA through 44 2/3 innings. She’s struck out 43 batters and opponents are hitting only .237 against her.
This is the second week in a row that a member of Bobcat softball received the PBC Freshman of the Week award, with Abi LeRoy receiving the recognition last week.
The Bobcats will be back in action Friday afternoon when they travel to Florence, Ala. to participate in the University of North Alabama Invitational. They’ll play six games in three days, the second time this year they’ll compete in that number contest over that stretch.
