Bobcat Blast Starts Softball Season Saturday

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College
softball team kicks off the season hosting the Second Annual Bobcat
Blast this weekend. The two-day tournament will feature eight total
games, four with the Bobcats on the field.
The Bobcats will play a doubleheader against the Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters Saturday, Feb. 2 beginning at 11 a.m. and then a doubleheader against the Queens University Royals Sunday, Feb. 3 beginning at 2:30 p.m.
Georgia Southwestern will also be participating in the weekend festivities, playing a double-header against Queens Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and LMU Sunday at 10 a.m.
The Bobcats return two members of the 2012 All-PBC team, junior outfielder Whitney Okvist (Kennesaw, Ga.) and junior infielder Kelsea Martin (Dacula, Ga.). Okvist was also named to the 2013 Preseason All-PBC Team along with senior utility player Dani Gallucci (Orlando, Fla.).
Okvist is coming off of a season where she finished with 52 stolen bases in as many tries, third in the nation. She was named National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American First Team and All-PBC First Team. She led the Bobcats during the 2012 season in batting average hitting .413. The junior outfielder already holds the Georgia College record in career steals with 76.
All games have free admission and will be played at the Peeler Complex on the Georgia College West Campus.
