MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College softball team (36-15) earned a place on two polls recently, ranking No. 24 in the nation on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Poll and No. 7 in the NCAA Southeast Regional Poll.
GC softball finished Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play as second place in the regular season and runner-up in the tournament championship game. The 36 wins earned by the team are the fourth most in school history.
The Bobcats have now appeared on three-straight NFCA polls and received votes for five-straight, peaking at No. 14 on the list last week. Fellow PBC members also remain in the top-25, as Armstrong (36-7-1) maintained the No. 2 position and Columbus State University (39-16) improved seven spots to No. 16 after winning the PBC Tournament.
The NCAA regional rankings determine which teams advance to the NCAA postseason, with eight total teams in the southeast facing off in two different SubRegionals. Armstrong ranks as the top team in the region with Lenoir-Rhyne University (35-14) sitting in the second spot.
Five PBC teams sit in the top-10 regionally, with the University of North Georgia at the No. 3 spot, Columbus State at No. 4 and Flagler College at No. 9 all joining the Bobcats and Armstrong.
The Bobcats now await the NCAA regional announcements, set for Monday May 6 at 10:30 a.m. They'll be vying for an at-large bid and first regional appearance since 2009. The NCAA Regional Tournaments are set to begin May 10.
