Parker and Duvall Named NFCA Scholar Athletes

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Georgia College softball program put two student-athletes on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar Athletes List, the organization announced recently.
The award is given to any player submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2010-11 academic year. The award is the second component of the Association’s academic award program.
Sophomore Alex Duvall (Douglasville, Ga.) and senior Anna Parker (Columbus, Ga.) were named NFCA scholar athletes by the association yesterday, Oct. 11. Duvall recorded a 3.66 GPA in pre-medicine and biology. Parker garnered a 3.56 GPA in psychology.
Additionally, the Georgia College softball team was ranked No. 66 in the nation on the All-Academic Teams list with a 3.06 GPA. The University of Central Missouri took the top spot with a 3.53 GPA. Lynn University and Texas Woman’s University round out the top three with a 3.52 and 3.50 GPA, respectively. The ‘Cats finished first among Peach Belt Conference schools.
The Bobcats begin the 2012 stanza hosting the GC Softball Tournament Feb. 4-5. GC faces off against Queens University Saturday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. in a doubleheader.
