MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College softball team (5-13, 1-1 PBC) turned things around in the second game of their doubleheader with Francis Marion University (11-4, 3-3 PBC), knocking off the Patriots 2-1 after dropping an 8-4 opener.
The Bobcats rebounded nicely after dropping the first game 8-4. The game was much closer than the score indicated, as GC trailed Francis Marion 5-4 heading into the top of the sixth inning. Some late runs would break open the game, leading the Patriots to the victory.
Despite the loss, there were some positives at the plate as junior Haley Burnett (Columbus, Ga.) went 3-for-3 with an RBI. Fellow classmate and Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Week Anna Parker (Columbus, Ga.) continued her offensive onslaught as she belted a double.
In game two, the Bobcats received an exceptional effort on the mound from freshman Chelsie Huffman (Powder Springs, Ga.) and junior Caitlin Duvall (Douglasville, Ga.). The duo went seven innings, scattering seven hits and allowing just one run.
Duvall (2-3) was particularly great as she closed out the final five innings allowing just four hits to pick up her second win of the season.
Parker delivered the first RBI in the opening inning with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Okvist, who singled, stole second and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. The 'Cats would tack on another in the bottom of the second.
Two runs would be all GC would need, allowing just one Patriot to cross the plate the rest of the day en route to the 2-1 victory.
Georgia College will get right back at it tomorrow when they host Lincoln Memorial University for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
