DECATUR, Ala. – The Georgia College softball team (4-12) struggled Sunday, dropping a pair of games at the Charger Chillout Tournament. GC lost to Barry University 7-2 and No. 9 University of Alabama-Huntsville 13-1.
In game one, the Bobcats squared-off against the Barry Buccaneers (4-4). After racking up nine runs in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, GC failed to produce much offense against Barry pitcher Paula Mackin (2-1) who threw a complete game, allowing just two runs.
Georgia College did show some bright spots, as junior Anna Parker (Columbus, Ga.) went 2-for-3. Outfielder Kati Pickowitz (Keller, Texas) also had a solid game, going 2-for-3 herself.
The Bobcats eventually fell 7-2, with Sabrina Chandler (Covington, Ga.) picking up the loss. She went four innings, allowing five runs and striking out three.
In the next game, GC found themselves paired up with tournament host UAH (6-0). First-year GC head coach Jamie Madewell-Grodecki is an Alabama-Huntsville alum, competing in both softball and volleyball.
Playing their sixth game in three days, the 'Cats just seemed to run out of gas against the Chargers as they fell 13-1.
The Bobcats added to the trouble in the field, committing five errors leading to seven unearned runs. A nine-run fourth inning blew open a 4-1 game, propelling the Chargers to victory.
Freshman Chelsie Huffman (Powder Springs, Ga.) picked up the loss. She threw 3 2/3 innings, giving up six earned runs in the process while striking out a pair.
Georgia College heads to Brevard, N.C. to take on Brevard College Wednesday, Feb. 23 for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
