DECATUR, Ala. – It was a rough opening day to the Charger Chillout Tournament for the Georgia College softball team (2-10), as they managed only five runs total in a pair of tight losses to Delta State University (3-3) and the University of Indianapolis.

The first came at the hands of Delta State, who used an eight-run fifth inning to knock of the Bobcats, 9-1.

Georgia College struck first in the third inning, breaking up a 0-0 tie. Junior Shahlisa Shirley (Winter Garden, Fla.) led off with a single, eventually scoring on a Kati Pickowitz (Keller, Texas) groundout.

On the mound, junior Haley Burnett (Columbus, Ga.) (0-4) held the Statesmen in check through the first three innings, allowing just one run. Unfortunately, she was unable to get out of the fourth inning giving up six consecutive hits leading to eight runs and the loss.

In the second game, the Bobcats fell to the Greyhounds of UIndy, again after GC scored first.

Junior catcher Anna Parker (Columbus, Ga.) got the 'Cats going as she blasted a solo home run in her first at bat.

Georgia College and Indianapolis remained even for much of the game, taking a 4-4 tie into the fourth inning. The Bobcats has a chance to break the game open, leaving the bases loaded giving the Greyhounds all the momentum they would need.

Indianapolis scored three runs the following half inning, all they would need to hold on to the 7-4 victory.

GC will look to get back on the winning track tomorrow, Feb. 19 as they take on Florida Tech University at 10:30 a.m. followed by a matchup with the University of Southern Indiana at 4:30 p.m.
