MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Dotted with nine home doubleheaders, the Georgia College & State University softball program and head coach Ginger Chaffinch has released its 2010 schedule.
2009 NCAA Tournament qualifiers themselves, the Bobcats have six opponents on the 2010 tome that were selected to that tourney a year ago. Queens (N.C.) University, Carson-Newman College, Augusta State University, Wingate University, USC Aiken and region champions North Georgia all give weight to the upcoming schedule for the Bobcats.
The season starts in Americus, Ga. at the GSW Invitational Feb. 5-7. Next, the ‘Cats open up at home with Queens Feb. 10 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
Six days later, the University of West Georgia comes to Milledgeville, again a 2 p.m. doubleheader. The Bobcats then play at the annual three-day UAH Charger Chillout, hosted by the University of Alabama-Huntsville. GCSU will battle the University of North Alabama, the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the University of West Alabama, Bellarmine College, the University of Arkansas-Monticello and Maryville University.
Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play begins Feb. 23 at home against Georgia Southwestern State University, beginning at 2 p.m. Just two days later, Georgia College travels to No. 21 Carson-Newman College, who won the Southeast 2 bracket of last year's NCAA Tournament.
After a trip to Lincoln Memorial University Feb. 26, the ‘Cats return to the Peeler Complex March 3 at 4 p.m. for another double-dip with St. Andrew's Presbyterian College. Then the final early-season tournament, a three-day event in Spartanburg, S.C., and it's back to Milledgeville to take on UNC Pembroke in PBC action March 9 at 2 p.m.
March 11 features a doubleheader at Augusta State, followed by home games with Tusculum College at 1 p.m. Three of the next four dates rounding out the month of March come on the road, with the lone home bout taking on USC Aiken March 24 at 4 p.m.
A home doubleheader with the newest softball team to the PBC comes April 3 at noon when Georgia College takes on Flagler College. The final road game of the regular season comes April 7 at Armstrong Atlantic State University before rounding out the regular season at home against defending PBC Champion and NCAA World Series participant North Georgia April 10 at 2 p.m.
The Peach Belt Tournament features the top-eight teams in the final standings this season, running April 16-18 at the Freedom Florence Complex in Florence, S.C.
