Bobcat Softball Hosts USC Aiken for PBC Showdown Wednesday

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University softball team (10-23, 2-6 PBC) plays host to Peach Belt Conference (PBC) foe USC Aiken (13-16, 5-7 PBC) Wednesday, March 24 at 4 p.m. at the Peeler Complex. 


The two teams take on each other for the first time since meeting in the 2009 NCAA Southeast Region Championship Tournament, an elimination game that produced an 8-0 Bobcat victory.


Both teams have fallen upon different fortunes this season, jockeying for position in the middle of the PBC Standings.


Georgia College junior outfielder Belourse Jean-Francis (Naples, Fla.) has had a hot bat as of late, hitting .400 last week on 6-of-15, driving in five and scoring once with a home run. Another newcomer, freshman third baseman Kelsea Martin (Dacula, Ga.) leads the team in runs (23) hits (32) batting average (.340) and doubles (8).


In the ring, sophomore Haley Burnett (Columbus, Ga.) owns a 7-11 record with a 3.58 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 115 1/3 innings. The Bobcats average 3.94 runs per game, while allowing a 4.33 ERA.


The Pacers are coming off being swept by Augusta State University Monday, and are led by a .305 batting average from Lauren Locklear, with four home runs, 17 RBI and 17 runs. The Pacers average 3.72 runs per game, with a 2.81 ERA. Their top hurler is Toni Flessate going 6-7 with a 2.75 ERA over 91 2/3 innings.
