MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College & State University softball schedule has been finalized with the announcement of a schedule for the Mid-South Classic, a tournament in Spartanburg, S.C. The Bobcats, under sixth-year head coach Ginger Chaffinch, will take on five South Atlantic Conference (SAC) squads.
The tournament starts with possibly its toughest opponent, as the Bobcats face Carson-Newman College Friday, March 5 at 4 p.m. The Eagles were 32-17 a year ago, winning both the SAC Tournament and the Hickory section of the NCAA Regionals.
Two games follow on Saturday, March 6, starting early against Belmont Abbey College at 10 a.m. The day finishes with Catawba College at 2 p.m. BAC was 11-35, while Catawba had a 25-19 campaign a year ago.
The final day features a pair of contests, beginning with Lenoir-Rhyne University at noon. The Bears were 38-13 in 2009. The tournament comes to a close for GCSU at 2 p.m., battling the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial University. LMU went 17-27 a year ago.
The season begins Friday, Feb. 5 at 4:30 p.m., taking on Albany State University at the GSW Tournament in Americus, Ga. The Bobcat home opener is slated for Feb. 10 against Queens (N.C.) University at the Peeler Complex.
