MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College & State University softball team continues to pick up academic honors as well as on the field, as two Bobcats were named to the ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team. Pitcher Mandy Chandler (Covington, Ga.) and shortstop Lindsey Swanson (Kennesaw, Ga.) both earned slots on the program's first team.

A senior shortstop, Swanson had the best GPA for GCSU softball and tied for the third best average in the district at 3.97 in psychology with a business minor. She also finished at .298 with one home run, 30 RBI and 30 runs, ripping a team-high 12 doubles.

Chandler, a four-time All-PBC pick and 2008 All-American for her work on the field, owns a 3.52 in marketing. She went 27-15 this season with a 1.80 ERA and 417 strikeouts.

The district covers all Division II, III and NAIA programs in the states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. To be eligible, players must have at least sophomore status and a better than 3.30 cumulative GPA. The ballots are voted on by the region's sports information directors.

Both Chandler and Swanson will move on to the Academic All-America ballot, due for a May 27 announcement. This marks the second time in both Swanson's and Chandler's careers that they've earned all-district first team. Chandler took All-America honors in 2008.

All-time, Bobcat softball has earned five Academic All-District nods.

The Bobcats went 32-24 in 2009, making their fourth-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament, all coming under head coach Ginger Chaffinch. Georgia College took second in the PBC Standings, matching its highest finish. Chandler set the PBC mark in single-season strikeouts as well as career wins and whiffs this season, and stands at 1,207, good for fifth in NCAA Division II history. The 417 this season ranks ninth in the NCAA Division II recordbooks.
