FLORENCE, S.C.- The Georgia College & State University softball team (24-16, 10-2 PBC) ended up splitting Peach Belt Conference (PBC) opponent No. 19 Francis Marion University (24-11, 6-6 PBC) in a doubleheader that turned out to be a two-day affair thanks to rainy weather. The Bobcats took game one yesterday (March 28) 3-1, but game two was halted in the bottom of the sixth inning with the score tied 3-3.

The two teams finished out the conference doubleheader today (March 29) with a 4-3 result in the Patriots' favor. Despite taking game one, the Bobcats just couldn't overcome a Patriot home run during the bottom of the sixth inning by Stevie Arrand to leftcenter.

The 4-3 loss went to senior Mandy Chandler (Covington, Ga.) as she fell to 21-9 for the season. Chandler gave up seven hits and four runs, while sitting down seven FMU batters for a complete game effort. Lauren Bubeck claimed the win for Francis Marion improving to 8-3. She allowed six hits and three runs with three strikeouts over seven innings pitched.

At the plate, Bobcat All-American Sherquita Bostick (Florence, S.C.) made the best out of her only hit with a two-run homer to left field. Senior left fielder Haley Holloway (McIntrye, Ga.) led the team in hits today going 2-for-3 at bat with one RBI. Freshman catcher Anna Parker (Columbus, Ga.) went 1-for-3, while classmate Stephanie Lezcano (Columbus, Ga.) stole third base and scored when pinch running for Parker.

Down 2-0 into the top of the third yesterday, the Bobcats tied the game in the third and took the lead in the fourth. Bostick's home run knotted the game, and Parker's leadoff single turned into Lezcano scoring on a Holloway single for the 3-2 lead.

FMU's Ashley Jaramillo tied the game with an RBI single in the fifth, while Arrand gave them the win with the solo shot in the sixth.

The Bobcats are back in action, tomorrow (March 30) as they travel to Savannah, Ga. to face conference foe Armstrong Atlantic State University in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
