2009 GEORGIA COLLEGE SOFTBALL NOTES GAME #31-32 V. LANDER -

THE GAME: The Bobcats (18-12, 5-1 PBC) host the third of four-straight doubleheaders, squaring off with Lander University (12-16, 1-5 PBC) Friday at 2 p.m. The Bobcats have won three of their last four, sweeping Georgia Southwestern 8-0 and 3-2 March 12 and splitting with Carson-Newman Wednesday for a 2-0 win and a 4-3 loss. The Bearcats have been off since March 13, a 6-4 win over Erskine College.

THE SERIES: The Bobcats swept Lander last season, 6-2 and 4-2 in Greenwood, S.C. The Bobcats now hold a 25-14 advantage in the all-time series.

2009 SEASON HONORS: Senior centerfielder Sherquita Bostick (Florence, S.C.) was named the first PBC Player of the Week of the 2009 season Feb. 10 ... Senior Mandy Chandler (Covington, Ga.) was selected PBC Pitcher of the Week Feb. 24 ... Both were named to the 2009 Preseason All-PBC Team.

POLLS, POLLS EVERYWHERE THERE'S POLLS: The Bobcats are receiving votes in the latest NFCA Division II Poll, released March 11.

RECORDS WATCH: Mandy Chandler already owns all of the Georgia College pitching records, so why not take on the PBC ones and the NCAA Division II marks? ... Her 86 wins ties for the career mark in PBC, and her strikeout total of 1,041 is 10th in Division II history, 20 out of ninth place and tops in PBC history ... Chelsea Wilson (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Sherquita Bostick each have nine career home runs, good for seventh in school history, one behind Jenna Kubesch and sixth ... Bostick has nine triples in her career, standing third all-time, one behind Kiedra Baitey and second place.

CHECK SWINGS: The Bobcats stand atop the PBC standings at 5-1, ahead of 3-1 North Georgia ... The Bobcats are 2-3 against ranked competition this season and have six more nationally-ranked teams on the schedule ... The Bobcats have been solid in tight contests, going 9-3 in one-run games and 5-0 in extra-inning contests ... If Georgia College can get by the fifth its in good shape, as opponents have out-scored GCSU 23-8 in inning number five; the second inning is kind to the Bobcats, a 23-8 advantage ... Sherquita Bostick owns the team's best hit streak of the year at an active nine games ... Only Tonya Medders (Bascom, Fla.) and Lindsey Swanson (Kennesaw, Ga.) have started all 30 games this season ... Head coach Ginger Chaffinch has the second-most wins in program history at 162, just one victory behind Windy Thees ... Chaffinch's win percentage (.677) remains much higher than Thees' (.639) ... The program all-time record (since joining the Peach Belt in 1992) is 434-405-2 ... After starting 55 games in leftfield in 2007, Allison Schwimer (Cumming, Ga.) has moved to second base this season, and the team is 8-5 since that move ... The Bobcats are 14-5 with Stephanie Lezcano (Columbus, Ga.) as the starting leftfielder.
