VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Georgia College Men's Cross Country team started 2017 on the best possible foot, as both the team and sophomore Shawn Olmstead (Buford) won the Friday night's VSU Border Clash.
Olmstead got his first collegiate race victory, blistering the 6K course in 19:38. He topped the field by four seconds.
"We got three in the top five today, which really has my hopes up," said Olmstead of the team win. "I'm excited for what we can accomplish this season."
The Bobcats tallied just 32 points in the win, topping the University of Tampa by only four points in a tight race. Georgia College did take down a pair of Peach Belt Conference (PBC) opponents, as Flagler College finished fourth and Clayton State University was fifth.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Sept. 9 as the team will split squads to the Joe I. Vigil open at Adams State University and the Jaguar Invitational at Augusta University.
