MACON, Ga. – With two runners posting times in the school's all-time top-10, the Georgia College men's cross country team took fourth among 15 teams at the Mercer RunFit Invitational Saturday. The Bobcats were tops among the four Division II teams.
Senior Tyler Mattix (Snellville, Ga.) took 12th place, covering the 8K course in 26:38, leading the team for the second time in three races this season. Mattix's time ranks fifth in Georgia College history.
Classmate Dan Horseman (Cohutta, Ga.) was three spots and just 10 seconds behind Mattix in 15th. Horseman's 26:48 is eighth in GC's recordbooks.
Another senior, Colin Conroy (Dacula, Ga.) was third on the squad, crossing the line 20th in 27:13. Sophomore Philip Laskey (Marietta, Ga.) broke up the senior finishes by taking 31st in 27:54, while senior Rob Manning (Lawrenceville, Ga.) finished off the scoring five for GC, taking 34th in 28:01.
The Bobcats were fourth with 105 points, just three behind Darton College in third. The Savannah College of Art and Design was second with 38, as host Mercer University took first with just 35. Among the Division II teams GC beat in the race was Peach Belt Conference (PBC) foe Armstrong in 13th. SCAD's Ignaci Fernandez won individual honors with a time of 25:29.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Sept. 24 in Boston at the Cod Fish Bowl race.
