MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College men's cross country team kicked off the 2011 season Friday afternoon, hosting the Third Annual Bobcat Invitational. Senior Tyler Mattix (Snellville, Ga.) led the Bobcats to a second place finish behind his individual third place slot with a time of 28:01.
Fellow classmates Daniel Horseman (Cohutta, Ga.) and Colin Conroy (Dacula, Ga.) snuck in just behind Mattix at 28:26 and 28:29, respectively on the 8K West Campus Cross Country Course.
Sophomore Philip Laskey (Marietta, Ga.) took eighth place for the Bobcats with a time of 28:53, while Rob Manning (Lawrenceville, Ga.) rounded out the scoring for GC with his time of 30:25 14th place finish.
Georgia College picked up 42 team points, just behind Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) who paced the field with 26 total points.
SCAD also delivered the top two runners in the race, Ignacio Fernandez and John Golden, who posted times of 27:05 and 27:25, respectively.
The Bobcats will look to feed off their opening performance as they head to California to compete in the UC Irvine Invitational Saturday, Sept. 10.
