NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the week six regional cross country polls Tuesday (Oct. 27), with the Georgia College women’s and men’s team both taking tenth.
The Bobcat women finished third this weekend at the ASU Tri-Meet. Freshman Allison Lones (Kathleen, Ga.) set the pace for the Bobcats for the fourth time this season, finishing fifth overall in 19:13. This smashed the previous school record (19:44) held by Bethany Loushine since 2002. Junior Karissa Ekstrom (Alpharetta, Ga.) would have broken the school record if not for Lones but took ninth place, finishing in 19:40.
Queens University (N.C.) takes the top honors this week. King College takes second and Peach Belt Conference (PBC) foe Columbus State University hangs on to third. Other PBC schools listed in the top-10 are Augusta State University (4), UNC Pembroke (6) and Clayton State University (9), respectively.
The Bobcat men placed second this past weekend at the ASU Tri-Meet. Junior Daniel Horseman (Cohutta, Ga.) set the pace for the Bobcats again, finishing seventh overall in 26:11. Junior transfer Tyler Mattix (Snellville, Ga.) finished in eighth with a time of 26:26. Freshman Philip Laskey (Marietta, Ga.) took ninth, just two seconds off Mattix.
On the men’s side the top-three stay the same with Queens holding on to first place, PBC opponent Columbus State taking second and King taking third. Other PBC teams mentioned in the poll were UNC Pembroke at six and Clayton at seven, respectively.
The Bobcats are back in action Nov. 6 at 9 a.m. at the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Championships in Evans, Ga.
