MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia College & State University men's cross country team finished in second place at Saturday's Mercer RunFit Sports Invitational with newcomer Tyler Mattix (Snellville, Ga.) leading the way.
The junior transfer completed his first meet for the Bobcats finishing eighth overall in 28:07 on the 8k course.
Four Bobcats finished one behind the other starting with junior Daniel Horseman (Cohutta, Ga.) in 11th at a personal best of 28:14. Following behind Horseman was freshman Zack Robinson (Snellville, Ga.) in 28:21, freshman Phillip Laskey (Marietta, Ga.) in 28:22, and junior Rob Manning (Lawrenceville, Ga.) in 28:23 in typical Georgia College pack-runner style.
The Bobcats tallied 53 team points total to fall behind Mercer University's first place finish with only 15 team points. The individual medalist was Chris Svidesskis from Mercer finishing in 27:02. The Bobcats' team points were enough to beat Peach Belt opponents University of Montevallo and Armstrong Atlantic.
The Bobcats next meet is Saturday, Sept. 25 at the 30th Annual Will Wilson Citadel Invitational in Charleston, S.C.
