TUCSON, Ariz. – The Georgia College Men's Tennis team made its impact on the region and the nation in the 2017-18 season, finishing the year as the No. 25 team in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Rankings.
A whopping eight Peach Belt Conference (PBC) teams were listed in the nation's top-50, led by National Champion Columbus State University at No. 1. Lander University was No. 4, followed by No. 9 Flagler College, No. 13 USC Aiken and No. 24 Young Harris College. Falling behind the Bobcats was No. 30 Francis Marion University and No. 45 University of North Georgia. The Bobcats were also seventh in the final Southeast Region Rankings.
In singles action, All-American Pedro Ecenarro (Santiago de Compostella, Spain) pulled in a No. 20 national ranking. Boasting a 14-4 record in first singles, Ecenarro was also No. 4 in the region.
The Bobcats' top duo of Jannik Kumbier (Neumunster, Germany) and Robin Moller (Hamburg, Germany) were listed No. 27 in the country as well. The pair of Germans were 12-7 this season, all on the top line, and also finished No. 6 in the region.
Kumbier also placed in the region, as the Southeast's No. 12 singles player. The junior was strong at 15-3, including an 8-1 mark in the PBC.
The season has come to a close for Bobcat Men's Tennis, a year in which Georgia College went 11-11, taking a spot in the NCAA Southeast Regional for the 13th year in a row. The Bobcats also had Ecenarro and Kumbier earn All-PBC honors for singles along with the pairing of Kumbier and Moller earning the accolade in doubles.
