MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Senior Anton Waern (Taby, Sweden) of the No. 31 Georgia College Men's Tennis team (11-12) has been named Bobcat Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 30.
Waern picked up the team's lone singles win in the 5-2 loss to No. 7 Armstrong State University in the NCAA Southeast Semifinals. Waern set down Jan Porteset in a pair of 6-4 sets in third singles to end the Bobcat's career with a victory. He went 1-1 for the match, teaming with Nathan Connelly (McDonough) for an 8-2 loss in third doubles.
The season has come to a close for GC Men's Tennis, marking their 11th straight year in making an NCAA Tournament appearance. Christian Graff (Lohmar, Germany) took top team honors by earning a slot on the All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Second Team in singles.
