#21 GC Men’s Tennis Team Takes Down #35 UNG, 7-1

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 21 Georgia College men's tennis team (10-4, 3-2 PBC) entered singles play at 2-1 and went on to take the rest of the matches on their way to a 7-1 win over No. 35 University of North Georgia (8-5, 1-5 PBC) Sunday at the Centennial Tennis Center Facility.

Sophomore Taylor Powell (Martinez, Ga.) and freshman Anton Waern (Taby, Sweden) had the most convincing win at second doubles with an 8-3 score over Giovani Santos and Sam Gantt, while the third doubles team of freshman Kyle Kinsler (Suwanee, Ga.) and sophomore Mattia Campus (Concorezzo, Italy) won a close 8-6 match against Matheus Pineda and Cameron Mistr.

The Bobcats top pair, the No. 16 doubles team of sophomore Yannick Hass (Troisdorf, Germany) and senior Alex Schubert (Frankfurt, Germany) had an even closer match and fell 9-7 to Mateus Camasie and Rodrigo Magan.

First, fourth and fifth singles won in straight sets, while second and third singles went to a third set and sixth singles went unfinished.

No. 33 Hass beat Camasmie 6-2, 6-1 in the first spot, while Campus and Powell both won 6-1, 6-2 sets over Gantt and Pineda in the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

Waern dropped his first set 6-2 before recovering to take the last two sets 6-4, 6-3 at third singles. Schubert won his first set 6-3, but dropped the second 6-4 before taking the third 6-1 at the second spot.

The men's tennis team next travels to No. 29 Francis Marion University Sunday, April 6 at 11 a.m.
