#18 GC Men’s Tennis Team Nets PBC Win Over #44 Flagler

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 18 Georgia College men's tennis team (4-2, 2-1 PBC) won their first home Peach Belt Conference (PBC) match to No. 44 Flagler College (2-6, 0-2 PBC), 6-3 Sunday at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility. The Bobcats went 2-1 in doubles play and 4-2 in singles competition.
Both the No. 1 and No. 2 Georgia College doubles pairs were victorious. The Bobcats' first doubles pair of sophomore Yannick Hass (Troisdorf, Germany) and senior Alex Schubert (Frankfurt, Germany) cruised to an 8-3 win over Jose Martinez and Uriel Oquendo. Sophomore Taylor Powell (Martinez, Ga.) and freshman Anton Waern (Taby, Sweeden) won 8-4 at second doubles against Inigo Landaluce and Fabio Ferrauti. The third doubles team of freshman Kyle Kinsler (Suwanee, Ga.) and Mattia Campus (Concorezzo, Italy) were beaten 8-5 by Hermann Gertmann and Bruno Padilha.
In singles play, the Bobcats were winners in the second, third, fifth and sixth spots. Campus lost the fewest total games in fifth singles by disposing of Gertmann, 7-5, 6-1. Powell beat Ferrauti in two 6-4 sets at third singles, while the other two singles wins went to a deciding set. Schubert rallied after dropping the first set in beating Landaluce 6-7, 7-5, 7-6 at second singles; and Kinsler won the first set 7-5, but had to go to a 10-5 tie-breaker after losing the second set 6-7 in the sixth spot.
At first singles, Haas lost to Martinez, 2-6, 6-2, 1-6. Waern dropped his match at fourth singles to Switzer, 3-6, 6-7. On the day only Hass and Powell walked away victorious at both singles and doubles play.
The men's team travels to No. 1 Armstrong Atlantic State University Wednesday, March 5 for a 1 p.m. start in a rescheduled match from Feb. 26.
