Wadstein Shines in Day Two of Tournament
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Johan Wadstein (Helsingborg, Sweden) struggled in day one of the Georgia College Fall Championship, but during the second day of matches he showed why he is currently the top ranked player for the Bobcats.
Wadstein played in the afternoon round and was able to beat the #1 ranked player from Young Harris, Joan Valls, by a score of 6-1, 6-1.
Alex Schubert (Frankfurt, Germany) played in the morning and lost his singles match in three sets. Schubert fell 6-3 in the first set before coming back and taking the second set. He would eventually come up short against Adam Jonsson of Lander, losing the final set 6-2.
Freshman Kenneth Cazort (Macon, Ga.) was the only other Bobcat to play in the first round of games Saturday. He was able to push the match to a full three sets, but would fall 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 to Brecht Vangrinsven of Young Harris. Cazort had a busy day with another singles match in the afternoon. He fell to Diego Zegarra of Lander 6-0, 6-0.
Playing at the same time as Wadstein in the afternoon was fellow countryman Wictor Andersson (Karlskoga, Sweden). Andersson lost his first set 5-7, but would make the necessary adjustments to come away with the win, going 6-1, 6-2 to finish the match.
Tyler Franks (Greensboro, Ga.) lost his singles match to Samuel Poutignat of Lander, 7-5, 6-1. Franks would bounce back during his doubles match alongside Wadstein. The top duo for the Bobcats faced off against the top pair from Young Harris. Franks and Wadstein dominated early, jumping out to a 7-0 lead, before eventually taking the match 8-4.
Men's tennis will be back in action next weekend, competing in the ITA Regionals beginning Friday, Sept. 21.
