ATHENS, Ga. – Georgia College men’s tennis kicked off its fall season Friday with the three seniors on the team taking part in the 45th Annual Southern Championships, A largely Division I tournament hosted by the University of Georgia.
Wictor Andersson (Karlskoga, Sweden) faced off against Ayrton Wibowo from Clemson University. Andersson lost 6-1 in the first set. While he battled back in the second, pushing the set to a tie breaker, he ended up falling 7-6(4).
2012 doubles All-American Johan Wadstein (Helsingborg, Sweden) played against Rogerio Ribeiro from East Tennessee State University. Wadstein fell in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
Tyler Franks (Greensboro, Ga.) was the last Bobcat to take the court, taking on Ezekiel Gils from Tennessee Tech University. Franks was close in both sets, but lost in the end 6-3, 6-4.
The Bobcats will be back in action tomorrow, with first round play in the consolation bracket. Andersson will be first up for the Bobcats at 11:30 a.m., taking on Anish Sharma from Georgia Tech. Franks will take the court at 2:30 p.m. when he takes on another Yellow Jacket, Colin Edwards. Wadstein will be the last Bobcat in action Saturday, with a 5 p.m. start time. He’ll be facing off against Ethan Wilkinson from Mississippi State University.
