MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College men's tennis team (7-3) took on the Lewis University Flyers (2-3) as the Illinois school travels through Georgia College for their spring break trip. The Bobcats ran away with the victory, finishing with an 8-1 score.
Senior Johan Wadstein (Helsingborg, Sweden) paired with freshman Yannick Hass (Troisdorf, Germany) and faced off against Armand Levandi and Erik Aunapuu in the first doubles slot, the Bobcat duo finishing with the 8-4 victory.
Taylor Powell (Martinez, Ga.) and Alex Schubert (Frankfurt, Germany) teamed together for the No. 2 doubles slot against John Richert and Jesse Hardacre. The Flyers remained close, but the Bobcats finished with the 8-6 victory.
Wictor Andersson (Karlskoga, Sweden) and Andreas Ainalides (Heusenstamm, Germany) took on Florian Etienne and Philip Keunzi for the No. 3 doubles match. The Bobcats completed the sweep of doubles play with the 8-4 win.
The Flyers got their one point of the day with the first completed singles match as Ainalides took on Levandi in the No. 2 slot and lost 7-5, 6-3.
Hass pushed the score to 4-1 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Etienne. No. 47 Wadstein clinched the win for the Bobcats as he cruised to a 6-4, 6-0 win in the first slot.
Powell, playing in his first singles matchup during the spring tennis, easily took care of junior Keunzi, 6-1, 6-0. Andersson took down Richert in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4 to push the score to 7-1.
Mattia Campus (Rome, Italy) finished the afternoon off with a win. The freshman dropped the first set 6-1, but battled back and took the final two sets 6-4, 10-8 for the win.
The Bobcats head to Dahlonega, Ga. Monday, March 11 to take on the No. 30 University of North Georgia at 4 p.m.
