#18 GC Men’s Tennis Downs #32 Wingate, 5-4
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Despite entering singles play down 2-1, the No. 18 Georgia College men's tennis team (6-3) rallied to edge No. 32 Wingate University 5-4 in a neutral site match in Augusta, Ga. Wednesday.
In first doubles, Yannick Haas (Troisdorf, Germany) and Johan Wadstein (Helsingborg, Sweden) dropped an 8-6 match to Neal Towlson and Roberto Hennis. The third slot was a marathon, with Wictor Andersson (Karlskoga, Sweden) and Andreas Ainalides (Heusenstamm, Germany) getting clipped 9-7 by Sebastian Hall and Josh Eardley.
The Bobcats picked up the first three singles wins, pulling within a victory before the Bulldogs could get another point.
Andersson made quick work of Eardley 6-2, 6-2 in the sixth slot to even the match 2-2. Mattia Campus (Rome, Italy) gave the Bobcats a lead with a fifth-slot win over Forbes, 6-3, 7-6.
After battling in the first set 7-5, Ainalides buzzed through Wingate's second singles Towlson 6-2 for the fourth team point. Ainalides improves to a team-best 8-1 in singles.
After a loss from Schubert to Hennis at fourth singles 7-6, 6-4, Haas provided the clincher. Playing at third singles, Haas beat Hall 7-6, 6-3. Haas now owns a 6-3 mark on the season.
Rounding out the match, No. 47 Wadstein lost to Cancelado in the first spot 7-5, 6-7, 10-7.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, March 9 at 11 a.m., hosting No. 38 Lewis University at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.
