MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 16 Georgia College men's tennis team (13-5, 4-3 PBC) trampled over the Georgia Southwestern State University Hurricanes (5-12, 0-6) Saturday afternoon, 8-1.
The Bobcats struggled through doubles but persevered, 3-0. Jerome Leborgne (Coordimanche, France) and Johan Wadstein (Helsingborg, Sweden) finished first for the Bobcats playing out of the No. 1 spot, blowing out Victor Pinones-Haltenhof and Matt Vansant 8-2. Leborgne and Wadstein are 12-6 on the season with a four-game winning streak. Leo Bernardes (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Tyler Franks (Greensboro, Ga.) finished up second in the second spot edging out Ryan Bartz and Stephen Moore, 8-4.
In third doubles action, Tobias Rausch (Mannheim, Germany) and Robert Angelucci (Acworth, Ga.) came all the way back after trailing 7-4 to win in a tie-breaker against Tommy Cangelosi and Chris Eastwood, 9-8 (7-5).
Wadstein started GC out on the right foot with the first singles victory coming in the second slot against Vansant, 6-1, 6-1, Wadstein grabbing his 10th win of the season. Leborgne finished second, clinching the match out of the No. 1 spot downing Pinones-Haltenhof, 6-3, 6-2, bringing his win streak to six. Rausch was third in a three set marathon at third singles, 6-2, 2-6, 10-6.
Franks dropped the first and only match for the Bobcats in a three set tie-breaker in the fifth spot to Eastwood, 4-6, 7-6, 10-8. Wictor Andersson (Karlskoga, Sweden) edged out Cangelosi in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5, extending his win streak to six, and Bernardes finished out the day in the fourth slot for the Bobcats defeating Moore, 6-2, 4-6, 11-9.
The men and women will travel to No. 13 Columbus State University tomorrow, April 3 for a 2 p.m. start.
