MARS HILL, N.C. – The No. 12 Georgia College men's tennis team (3-0, 1-0 PBC) beat the Mars Hill College Lions (0-1) with ease 8-1 to stay undefeated on the 2011 season.
The Bobcats jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the doubles competition. Jerome Leborgne (Coordimanche, France) and Johan Wadstein (Helsingborg, Sweden) downed Lucas Simm and Enrico Patriarca, 8-2. Leo Bernardes (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Tyler Franks (Greensboro, Ga.) defeated Carlos Oyaga and Stevan Stankovic, 8-6. Tobias Rausch (Mannheim, Germnay) and Robert Angelucci (Acworth, Ga.) doubled-up Brad Bassinger and Guilherme Lima, 8-4.
The Bobcats' only loss came when No. 16 Leborgne dropped his second singles bout of the season to Simm in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Bernardes came through in the second singles slot, defeating Patriarca, 6-3, 6-2. Rausch followed with a strong performance against Lima winning, 6-2, 6-1. Franks played in the four spot but finishing his match last defeating Stankovic in a tie-breaker, 6-4, 5-7, 10-3.
Angelucci put on a dominating performance over Oyaga, 6-2, 6-1 and Wictor Andersson (Karlskoga, Sweden) shut out Bassinger in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
The Bobcats travel to Wingate University to finish their weekend road trip tomorrow, Feb. 13 for an 11 a.m. start.
