#11 Georgia College Men’s Tennis Falls to #8 Columbus State, 5-4

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 11 Georgia College & State University men’s tennis team (12-5, 5-3 PBC) suffered a hard-fought 5-4 loss Saturday against No. 8 Columbus State University (12-3, 6-1 PBC).

The Bobcats went 1-2 in doubles action, as Jerome Leborgne (Coordimanche, France) and Johan Wadstein (Helsingborg, Sweden) fell 8-2 to CSU’s No. 8 ranked team of Frank Suarez and Christophe Noblet. Georgia College seniors Max Beliankou (Minks, Belarus) and Giovane Nucci (Santa Catarina, Brazil) defeated Nemanja Djuric and Olivier Simonet 9-7 at No. 2 doubles.

Slotted third, the Cougars’ Filip Cojbasic and Daniel Stomberg beat Tyler Franks (Greensboro, Ga.) and Leo Bernardes (Sao Paulo, Brazil) 8-4.

In singles play, Leborgne sought revenge as he downed the No. 16 nationally-ranked Suarez 6-4 and 6-2. Wadstein looked impressive at second singles, overpowering Gordan Divljak 7-6 and 6-2, while Beliankou improved to 13-3 for the season, beating Diego Motivar 6-4, 0-6 and 6-1.

In the fourth spot, Nucci fell 6-4 and 6-2 to Stomberg, while Bernardes lost to Noblet 6-1, 7-6. Bobcat freshman Wictor Andersson (Karlskoga, Sweden) closed things out, surrendering to Djuric in a pair of 6-3 sets.

The Bobcats are back in action Thursday, April 8 at 3 p.m. traveling to No. 24 Anderson University.
