#11 GCSU Men Fall to #4 Valdosta State, 7-2
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - After losing all three doubles bouts, the No. 11 Georgia College & State University men's tennis team (1-1) took two of the six singles matches, falling to No. 4 Valdosta State University (1-0) 7-2 tonight at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.
The other two doubles bouts were 8-3 losses, as Joao Casagrande (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Tyler Franks (Eatonton, Ga.) were felled by Daniel Dueren and Christian Hansen and Max Beliankou (Minsk, Belarus) and Giovane Nucci (Santa Catarina, Brazil) found the same fate against Konstantin Kutschenko and Otto Lenhart.
The Bobcat wins came at fourth and sixth singles, as Leo Bernardes (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Wictor Andersson (Karlsgoga, Sweden) remained undefeated on the young season. Bernardes beat Lenhart in a three-set battle 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, and Andersson took two sets to get past Kutschenko 7-6, 6-2.
Leborgne drew a tall order in national No. 1 Pakebusch, dropping by 6-0, 6-2 scores. Wadstein didn't have it much easier at second singles, falling in a hard-fought 6-3, 7-6 to No. 4 Dueren. Beliankou made No. 18 Hansen go three sets to beat the Bobcat senior 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.
Nucci had a down-to-the-wire defeat at fifth singles, losing to Kuech 6-3, 1-6, 10-7.
The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 2:30 p.m., hosting Erskine College.
